Standard facial products from stores contain many toxic ingredients that negatively affect hormones and other body systems. And some facial products promoting youthful skin are made using neonatal (infant) foreskins (and it doesn't have to be listed on the label)!
It's safe to assume that almost all of the facial/skin care products available at stores and even many of those available through "natural" companies contain toxic and less-than-desirable ingredients. But keeping our skin healthy and our face looking young can be done naturally with the things God has given us! Here are some of my DIY recipes for facial care as well as some great all-natural products for those who aren't DIY'ers.
DIY facial cleansing pads
I make these and keep them on hand for myself, my teenagers, and anyone else who will use them. They work great and the tea tree oil has a lot of research behind it for supporting healthy skin, especially for those who need to put forth extra effort to avoid blemishes. ;)
For these, you will need cotton rounds found in the section by cotton balls/makeup. Use whatever size fits the jar/container you are using.
Recipe: (For 30 small cotton rounds)
1 Tbsp Melted coconut oil
1 tsp liquid castile soap (opt.)
1/2 cup Distilled/Filtered water
15 drops Tea Tree Oil
(Add 15 drops each of Frankincense and Myrrh if not using the facial cream recipe below)
For removing eye makeup, make round pads without the essential oil(s). Coconut oil is a very effective eye makeup remover.
Clay Mask
When combined with water and left to dry on the skin as a clay mask, bentonite clay is binds to those less-than-favorable things living on the surface of the skin and within pores to extract these from the pores.
A homemade clay mask is incredibly easy with bentonite clay. Simply mix bentonite clay with water until you get the desired consistency, apply, and leave on for 10-20 until clay is dry and cracking. Then wash off with warm water.
Youthful Facial Cream
These three oils--frankincense, myrrh, and patchouli--are backed by thousands of years of use for supporting beautiful skin and by current proven research.
Frankincense: Frankincense has long been revered as the oil for supporting healthy skin. It is the first oil of choice for anything dealing with the skin!
Myrrh: As recorded in God's Word in the book of Esther, beauty treatments given to women before they were presented to the king included six months of myrrh oil (Esther 2:12).
Patchouli: Lots of great research for how this oil helps with the appearance of youthful skin!
(I've found some great research on manuka oil for the facial skin too so I use that one now too!)
For DIY facial cream:
4 ounces of chosen carrier oils/bases* 15 drops Frankincense 15 drops Myrrh 10 drops Patchouli
*I used a combination of virgin coconut oil, tallow, and beeswax; other great choices include argan oil, rosehip seed oil, jojoba, etc.
Melt the oils/bases down, refrigerated them in a stand mixer bowl until slightly solid. Add the essential oils and then whip until somewhat fluffy. Voila!
Make sure to only apply facial cream after cleansing the face thoroughly.

**PLEASE DO NOT USE CHEAP ESSENTIAL OILS FOR DIY PRODUCTS (or anything else)! What you put on your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream in less than a minute. Cheap essential oils can only be cheap when they are adulterated--either with synthetic chemicals--or other ways. You will not get the benefits you are looking for from adulterated essential oils at best and at worst you will get negative effects from using them in your daily skin care regimen. Click here to read why two years of research led me to use only Young Living's essential oils.
Blessings of good health,
